We find that giving away food for free invites people into a conversation with us about the problem of food waste. When you are confronted with overwhelming facts and figures about food waste on a global scale, it often becomes difficult to visualise. However, if we can lay out the food waste from just 5 to 10 stores in front of you, it becomes much easier to upscale and picture just how huge the problem is.
There are a wide range of projects tackling food waste, and our food markets are just one way in which we add something to the movement. Little by little, we believe consumers and producers of food will change their behaviour – it’s these small gestures that snowball into a greater revolutionary change.
