Internships

Work, Learn & Inspire

Come join the team!

If you want to experience an unconventional, international working environment in which everyone is equal and empowered to take action, you will feel at home at Taste Before You Waste, located in the centre of Amsterdam (Plantage Doklaan 8, 1018 CM).

We are a registered foundation (Stichting) and you can receive official accreditation for your university or workplace if so desired.

Many students from UvA, VU, Amsterdam University College and more have already embarked on an internship with Taste Before You Waste, and it has been a valuable experience for all of us.

Our internships, just as our community, are all about co-creation and empowerment. We do not require you to have specific experience before starting your journey with us. If you do, in turn, have expertise that you would like to apply to our cause, we are always looking to improve our work-in-progress. What is important for us is that we learn and grow together with our interns.

As an intern, you attend weekly meetings with the other Core Team members, in which we reflect on the events of the week, the progress on all projects and plans for the coming week, as well as making collective decisions and strategise on the bigger picture of our organisation. Otherwise, you are free to either work at our office in Amsterdam or from home, unless your position requires otherwise.

Unfortunately we are not able to compensate interns financially for their time and energy. All we can offer are free weekly dinners and surplus groceries and being part of a conscious and engaged community of food heroes. Connected to that, we also understand that everyone has busy, complex lives and appreciate every commitment – so we are quite flexible in terms of working hours.

Previous interns said:

“Through the very act of cooking, we communally speak out against the oppressive power structures of our society, which make the waste of so much food seem normal. (…)  it was very helpful to actively participate in the fields I usually only read about. Helpful in a way that I got to apply a lot of my previously acquired knowledge, engaging with problems so often talked about in ‘academia’ now on a local level.”
– Tess Post (Community Kitchen Coordinator)

“I was given the freedom to work in the way that was most suitable for myself. Therefore, I enjoyed the flexibility of the organization.”
– Emma Greenwood (festival Project Developer)

“The opportunity to work so closely with like-minded people is a unique one. An internship with TBYW means immediacy and real activism catered to your own personal creativity – a rare chance to get your ideas into the real world.”
– Eloise Martin (Writer TBYW Website)

“I think that what made so interesting and fun as well, was the fact that it is a non-profit founded and run by young people. This made it a very relaxing environment for me because, although I had expectations to meet, it felt like there was always the possibility to openly discuss possible problems. (…) The people I interacted with were motivated and hardworking, but at the same time flexible and open to discussion.”
– Matilde Marchesi (PR & Social Media Coordinator)
